How the depth actually happens

Metallic pigment is reflective mica suspended in a clear or tinted epoxy. When we pour it and work it, the pigment particles orient themselves in the resin, and because they are catching light at slightly different angles across the floor, your eye reads variation in depth that is not physically there. The surface is flat. The look is not.

The pattern comes from how we move the material. Different tools and techniques produce distinctly different results. Some floors get a slow, wide movement that reads like polished stone or clouded marble. Some get worked harder for tighter, more turbulent movement. Some get a solvent or air treatment that opens small cells and craters in the surface for a mineral, geological look.

Every one is genuinely one of a kind. Two floors poured from the same pigment on the same day by the same crew will not match, which is the point and which is worth understanding before you commission one.

Choosing a look before we pour

Because it cannot be undone once it cures, we spend real time upfront.

We pour physical sample boards, actual epoxy on actual board, in your pigment combination. We set them in your room, under your lighting, at the time of day the space is busiest. A metallic that looks dramatic under a photography light can go flat under a restaurant’s warm dim, and a subtle pearl can look muddy under a showroom’s cool bright LEDs.

We also talk about how much movement you want. High-contrast pours with strong veining and cratering photograph beautifully and make a statement. Low-contrast pours in a single family of tones read as sophisticated and age better in a space where the floor is supposed to support the room, not compete with it. For most Fort Lauderdale hospitality and retail work, the quieter version is the one people are still happy with in year six.

The detail

Built for commercial traffic, not a garage

The performance comes from the layers under and over the metallic.

We start with the same commercial prep discipline as any other install: grind to profile, moisture-test, structural crack repair, honored control joints. A moisture-blocking or high-build primer goes down as the foundation, and on a Fort Lauderdale slab with any moisture reading at all this is not optional.

Then the metallic layer, poured and worked. Then the protection: multiple coats of clear commercial-grade urethane on top, which is the actual wear layer. The metallic epoxy is the appearance. The urethane is what takes the abuse. Skimp there and the floor scratches, which is exactly how metallic got its undeserved reputation as a residential-only product.

Where sun reaches the floor, the topcoat goes aliphatic urethane so it stays clear instead of ambering, which on a light metallic is the most visible failure there is.

Where we would talk you out of it

We would rather lose the job than install a metallic floor into the wrong room.

Heavy industrial floors with forklifts, dropped steel, and dragged pallets are the wrong home for it. High-build industrial epoxy or polished concrete will serve you better and cost less.

Commercial kitchens and washdown rooms are also a no. Those need cove base, aggressive traction, and thermal shock tolerance, and a metallic floor gives up its whole visual character the moment you broadcast anti-slip aggregate through it.

Rooms with severe untreated moisture are a hard stop until mitigation is handled. A blister under an industrial grey floor is annoying. A blister under a metallic pour ruins a piece of work that cannot be spot-repaired invisibly.
